Microfiction Day 157 – ‘Shades of Grief’

She was spinning with grief.

But not because she had lost someone. Not because a relationship had ended. Not because she had said goodbye to a family pet.

She was grieving for the person she thought she was going to be.

The injury had ended her time on stage, had meant that she would walk with a limp so subtle that most people wouldn’t notice it.

But she did, every step a reminder of what she had lost. When people asked, she told them she was fine.

She wasn’t fine. Dancing had been her lifeblood. Now her veins felt empty.
