Microfiction Day 312 – ‘Two Lives’

She was stuck between two lives.

A smile for one. A frown for the other. Her mouth showing both at the same time.

People thought she couldn’t hear them talking about her. They assumed her smile was from the old life. From the person she used to be.

What they didn’t know was that she finally felt free. The frown was the past, from the life she had been expected to lead.

The smile was her present. The person she had become, and the person she would go on to be.

She was simply choosing to hide it from them.
