Microfiction Day 299 – ‘The Shoe Shiner’

The first man was cheating on his wife. He watched him pull his ring out of his pocket as he reached for his wallet. Put it back on his arrogant finger as he walked away without tipping.

The second man was on his way to a job interview, the nervous bouncing of his other leg a dead giveaway. He waved away his money, shook his hand for good luck.

The third man reminded him of his father, his manner gruff but the creases by his eyes evidence of a life filled with laughter.

He whistled as he shined those shoes.
