Microfiction Day 297 – ‘Panic’

Their heart rates raised at the same time.

One understood why. The other didn’t.

A loosened grip was all it took, a crowd parting them without realising.

She noticed first. He was distracted by sunlight bouncing off a windscreen, the dazzle reminding him of waking up to her smile.

She called his name, her voice immediately hysterical in a way that made those around her stop as if it was their name she was calling.

This time the crowd moved in their favour, parting to expose his small body standing at the edge of the pavement.

She snatched him close.
