Microfiction Day 197 – ‘Creation’

The summer had started gloomy and heavy, the grey clouds pressing onto her shoulders alongside the burden of her grief.

It was too much to carry at nineteen.

Her head had always been filled with the possibilities of what humankind could achieve when scientific ambition went too far, her dreams turning to nightmares and her sheets soaked nightly with an animalistic smell of fear at what might come to pass.

He had suggested the competition, a way to while away the thick evenings with tales of ghosts and monsters.

A crack of lightning split the sky. She began to write.
