Microfiction Day 351 – ‘Significance’

As the tyres began to spin, she found herself thinking inexplicably of the time she had hugged the wrong mother at the school gate, her face flushing so crimson she could feel the heat in her cheeks as adult laughter swam above her.

As the taxi driver swore, knuckles white on the wheel, he found himself thinking inexplicably of the fruit cake his grandmother used to make, and how he had once poked a hole into the icing and blamed his sister.

When the car swung to a stop, they exhaled in unison as an unenviable orchestra of horns began.
