Microfiction Day 298 – ‘The Kindness of Strangers’

She poured more coffee into the mug of the young woman trying to look older than she was. She hoped it would bring some energy into her young eyes but they remained flat and grey.

It was so early in the morning she still considered it nighttime.

“Have you got somewhere to go tonight Hon?”

The girl – for that’s what she was – avoided her gaze. “My ride will be here soon.”

She placed a hand on her shoulder. “Ok Hon.”

“Excuse me?”

She turned back. “Yes?”

The grey eyes shone blue through the tears. “Can I use your phone please?”
