Microfiction Day 251 – ‘Jumping From the Page’

She was the girl that no one noticed.

She liked it that way.

She carried guilt in her pockets. Had secrets that lay just beneath her surface. If she stepped out from the shadows she worried that people would see them, dancing under her pale skin like a zoetrope.

So she continued to keep her head down. To turn down invitations to birthday parties and bury her nose in books.

When the books spoke to her, she made sure only to answer when nobody else could hear.

The first time the librarian did was the last time she saw him.
