Microfiction Day 181 – ‘Hindsight’

“Once a bell has been rung you cannot unring it.”

The boy lowered the baseball bat and looked at the weathered face that looked into his. The man looked both old and young, the eyes showing the person he had once been.

“What are you talking about old man?”

“If you swing that bat and break that glass, there’s no undoing that action.”

A shrug. “So?”

“Just something to think about.” The man put his hands in his pockets and walked away, whistling a tune the boy vaguely recognised.

He shouldered the bat and walked in the opposite direction.
