Microfiction Day 131 – ‘You Never Know’

“Why do you have a fork in your pocket?”

He looked down at it and back up at her. He thought the answer was obvious. “Well, you never know do you?”

“Never know what?”

“When you might need one.” He put it back in his pocket, and they carried on walking down the street together, the conversation to his mind complete.

He noticed her frown out of the corner of his eye.

“What is it?”

“Well, what if you need to eat a yoghurt?”

He reached into his inside pocket and pulled out a teaspoon.

“Not a problem.”
