Microfiction Day 98 – ‘The Watcher’

She stood beneath the streetlight that had been out for a few months, lending her a black cloak outside his window.

She saw the glow of the TV flicker across their faces, his arm draped across the red-headed woman’s torso who laid with her head on his lap.

She remembered what it had felt like to feel the weight of his arms on her.

The red-headed woman stood up and came towards the window. As she reached for the curtains, she seemed to lock eyes with Nicole through the darkness.

She smirked.

The curtains were pulled shut.

  1. Clever. I feel sorry for Nicole. I wonder whether I would have felt the same pity if Nicole had been Nicholas……

      That’s a really interesting point! I think a lot of readers may have looked at the story differently if that were the case.
